The Actions Thread

Alrighty lets get started, i’m currently going to write up a tut on how to make an action, coming soon. After that, il be happy to either instruct or make a few actions that someone uses as a tedious/repetitive tool, but takes more than one or two steps eg: resizing images of set res to another set res (ratio not necessarily the same).

I admit my knowledge of actions is basic, but actions themselves are quite basic and useful and can be exported.

Actions themselves are simple to set up, but what you can do with them and how to customize them is the tricky part.  I’ve used them some, but just for repetitive tasks like resizing or cropping mass numbers of images.  Are you going to do tuts on showing things like setting up actions that make rain on your photos, or actions that make your text metallic… that kind of thing?  Or just the basic how to set them?  I know there are action packs out there to do that kind of thing that you can download.. but why pay for something you can make yourself… :O)

As soon as I get more than a few minutes. I’ll post some big actions I’ve created over the years in photoshop.

Takes your image sharpening to a whole new level!

That the biggest thing I have trouble with.  I can’t get images to sharpen for anything.  They end up looking like crap.  I’ll definitely be on the look out for those.

Sharpening is one of my lower than par talents as well, since i don;t do much photo manipulation like the photographers.

I’m talking about basic actions, for those who do those repetitive tasks, but don’t know of the automated easy way, eventually we’ll get to the really tricky stuff, but for now, since the member penetration is low, im thinking the basic level should be enough to get started. I’m writing up the most basic tut on making an action for my site anyway, since i know my main theme will not get that much traffic right now, im hoping tuts will draw a few people, so anything worth it il be looking into smile

Blayde you have a point. I think I’ll save the big guns for when the hits are higher.

So I’m gonna talk out loud for a few seconds and see if this creates any help.

WHat do I do with images?....

*Save them for web so it strips the metadata, changes the size to a certain dimantion, and ceratin size limitation.

*Upsize the images so I can make a extremely large print. I have to do the same process by 10% incriments since Photoshops interpolation alogrythims can only guess so much before they start making nasty little artifacts in the image.

Create a ghostly orton effect by copying the background layer, blurring the copied layer via gaussian blur, changing the opacity of the copy layer to 40%, then changing the blending mode to overlay. (there’s a few small other steps, just giving ideas on how you can make a tut w/ actions.)

Other reasons actions are cool:

Actions can be saved and put on your usb drive then loaded on a friends photshop (SO NICE!)

You can export actions so when you upgrade you don’t have to create the actions again.
